Pain Can Make You Or Break You

I'm sorry I have been away for so long, the physical pain I was dealing with was beyond what I could handle. I often thought that if this was the way my life was going to be, I couldn't see any good. I was negative, unhappy and I had lost hope. I had got to the point that even moving around my home was almost unbearable... the doctor gave me pills to deal with the pain but they only exhausted me and made me loopy... I was barely functioning and if it wasn't for my very good friend I may never have left the house.

In that time period, Valentina had to go to the hospital and have her embedded teeth removed as well as her four wisdom teeth. She really handled it well, I am grateful it is over with and that she won't have to deal with that pain in the future. She is now taking great care of her teeth, which I am very happy about as I know more than most people how important it is to have nice and healthy teeth, it makes smiling so much easier.
About two weeks ago I went back to see my doctor, I told her that I couldn't handle the pain as I was barely making it... I was thankful that I was able to work from home as that would have only brought more stress on me. Worrying about finances was not another trial I needed to deal with at that time. My doctor suggested a new prescription that may help with nerve pain... I started them immediately and within three days I was able to deal with the pain. It's still there but it no longer controls my every thought... now I have to work on getting back to walking and exercising.
I will definitely be taking it slow, I don't want to reinjure myself...  however; I really need to lose some weight to take the pressure off my back as I know that isn't helping me at all. Thankfully summer is almost here and it is quite light in the morning, I can take a quick walk around my neighborhood to get me started and my friend and I will be able to start swimming in the lakes in the evening very soon. We are both looking forward to that, it's a good way to exercise without putting more pain on our back and joints.
I know it will take some time to get back on track to be healthy again but I have hope now, I feel like I can see that light at the end of the tunnel. I had nearly given up many times over the past year, I held on because I am tenacious, I don't give up. Some days were much harder than others but I found something deep inside to hold on until I found some relief to deal with it... I will never take it for granted, I am incredibly grateful that my doctor found something to help.

I want to thank each and every one of you for all your comments, emails, and messages on all my social media. I didn't think I would be gone this long, I truly missed you and blogging a great deal... I just didn't want to write while I was so negative. I tried to write a couple of times but I felt like the pain blocked me from any good thoughts... that's not what I wanted on my blog all the time. Sure we all have ups and downs but I felt perpetually down. Life and trials are never easy to deal with, pain can make or break you... I am thankful it didn't break me...

  7. You know I'm thrilled to see you back, and suspected you were having a rough time. Having to work and live life with excruciating pain had to be horrible. I'm glad you have such a loving friend, and a doctor who could help. Wisdom teeth - arghhh! I know you both are glad that's over. Take it one day at a time, at your own pace. Missed you and Super HUGE Hugs...

  8. Launna, I am so grateful that you found something to help with the pain. We have talked before and I know what it is like to deal with debilitating pain...and then to have the relief of having some of that pain lifted. I am sure you have a pretty high pain tolerance level and I know it has been stretched to the limit.

I am on a path to lose weight and get healthier this summer, too. We can do it together! It starts to feel overwhelming when you don't feel well and then have the burden of extra weight on top of that...and then you eat because pain prevents you from doing anything else ... been there....it's a terrible circle that seems like it will never end.

I am praying for you, Launna. You are strong and brave and beautiful inside and out and I KNOW you can do whatever you set your mind to doing. Love to you- Diana

  9. I've missed you. I love the grasp at the top that say pain can change you but don't let it define you. That is powerful.

  10. Hello Launna, so good to see your post.
I have been thinking about you and wondering how things have been.

Pain is never easy to deal with/live with and I am so pleased you have found a good Doctor and some relief from it.

Pleased too that Valentina has had her teeth seen to and sorted.

With Summer coming may you go forward with a renewed vigour and enjoy the coming months. You have kept so strong throughout all that life has thrown your way ... you have my admiration.

I think you should take it one step at a time, and know that you have so many people who are thinking of you and sending positive thoughts and prayers.

    My good wishes

    All the best Jan

  14. Oh Launna, glad that you made it back. Nerve pain is just....well, so total and controlling your life. I´m so happy that it didnt break you! Don´t give up..I´m sure that you wont. :) You are a survivor! You know that? Slowly is so much more that nothing. When you loose a bit that pain..all is possible. Also, I´m here if you need! Love, Maarit xoxoxox

  15. I'm thankful the pain didn't break you as well, it is such a terrible thing, being in pain constantly...it is good you were able (with the help of your doctor) to make it bearable. I'm happy to hear your daughter has recovered well from removing her wisdom teeth. I still haven't removed them, maybe some day I will, I only have two on my upper jaw so they're quite useless, I have to get them cleaned at the dentist regularly.

Take care, don't overexercise, no need to risk another injury that would set you back. Swimming is a great exercise because it is so much safer than other forms of physical activity. I'm a big fan of swimming myself. I hope I'll manage to find a nice location and time to do it this summer.

  19. I'm so glad to hear from you on your blog! Sorry for all you've been through and Valentina as well. Swimming will be wonderful once you can get out there. My mom was visiting me last week and that's all she can do for exercise. So we went to the gym where she can go as my guest. I never go swimming on my own. She's excellent at it. But I'm always amazed the sore muscles I feel the next day of stuff that I didn't know I hadn't been using.

SO glad to hear you're getting back on track and keeping positive energy in your life!! I totally understand that not wanting to do anything feeling. Life can keep us down and the worrying and stress can be unbearable and it's so much easier to hide in bed. And it can be hard to pull yourself out. But you did! That's great! 23. Launna, it seems like you have had a mountain of crap to deal with... Valya too... there just isn't anything good to say about chronic pain. If dropping some weight will help the pain, and your doctor approves, drop all sugar out of your diet ASAP, this includes all refined grains. It will make a huge difference. Of course I'm wishing you all the best and sending good vibes. Hugs xx

  24. Launna! I'm so relieved and glad you're back! I was getting quite concerned, and checking your blog regularly for any updates. I'm happy that the new medication has given you relief from the pain, and suited you much better than the previous medication. It's great that you have positive plans to fit exercise into your routine. I find it always help to do a little more exercise each time, providing the movements are safe for you. That way you'll build up your strength gradually, and feel a sense of accomplishment each time you do an extra action or movement that you weren't able to before.

Please keep us posted on your progress. Wishing you the very best of luck with your new routine!

As I said before, I knew there was a serious reason why you weren't blogging, but I liked to know that whatever reason that was, you were taking the time to deal with it. I'm so sorry to hear about the pain you must've been feeling all this time. But know that you're feeling better I'm happy for you. They say "what doesn't kill you makes you stronger" and I definitely see that on you. With your health improving and the warmest days of the year around the corner, I know you'll feel like slowly starting to wake up from a bad dream.

I think pain made me so much more sharp to the point people start to get hurt when they get close to me... I know there must be something good after going through all this pain, but I feel like I'm not there yet and I already can't handle it anymore.
I feel ungrateful talking like this about pain with you though because you seem to be in such a greater deal dealing with yours. I really really hope you will be able to recover someday, it pains me to see you in so much pain.

  77. I read this a little while ago and it was comforting. I can certainly relate--I took a blogging break because writing on my blog felt like more of a chore. I felt like I was mentioning how tired or busy I was all too much and not focusing on the positives in life. I think that my break, however long, has really helped me. I've come back realizing that I want to blog--that I've missed writing and sharing my life with friends on this corner of the Internet.

I'm sorry for staying away for so long. Your posts are reflective and your writing never fails to move me. I'm sorry for your pain. I'm thinking of you and wishing for your health and happiness. Come back when you feel the need to. We'll still be here. <3

    1. Hello again Launna.
Thank you for your sweet comment. I think it's wonderful that you're writing. Self-reflection and journaling certainly helps with pain and recovery.

I made up my mind to pursue a new blog, one focused more around creativity, writing, and other joys in life. A break to deal with negativity and stress was just what I needed in order to want to write positively again. I hope it is doing the same for you.

However...I don't think you should always hold off on writing about negativity in your life. What I love most about your blog is the fact that you talk about your struggles and trials in life, yet you continue to move past them. Sharing such a real, raw aspect of your life takes a lot of strength. You continue to show that strength by not allowing pain to take over your life, and I find that to be so motivational.

But as always, write when you're ready. You'll know when you're ready.

  80. Oh hun....I really really hope you won´t have that pain anymore in the future. I know how happy you are to work from home. It´s like you do one step further and something unexpected is just happening to you.
Please please never give up, even if you feel uncomfortable in your body, you will be strong enough to loose that weight very soon.
Im glad that Valentina is fine. A nice smile is really something that is very important for the future.
Before I forget to tell you: Happy Happy birthday (even though a few days too late) I hope you had an amazing day and enjoyed each and every moment.
    1000 hugs,
    Your friend Martin

I love and appreciate all genuine comments, to save a little time, I won't be commenting on the comments on my blog (unless you don't have a blog), I will just visit your blog and comment there, if you have left a meaningful comment for me... I would much rather spend the time reading and commenting on a few extra blogs ❤
