Sometimes We Must Lose In Order To Gain

I took an unintended break from writing as I was on a short vacation, I am back to work tomorrow... the time off was great, it really helped to rejuvenate me... I stayed up, slept in, spent time with Valentina also caught up on my blog reading and commenting. This was the week that Andrea was supposed to come home for a visit but the price of tickets almost doubled so that is on the back burner for a while... Hopefully next year it will be more feasible...

So, I finally decided after eating well for the last five weeks that I needed to get weighed again, I am pleased to say I am back on the path of being healthy and I am very happy about it... although I have gained weight, I also know I can take it off since I have done it before... it feels good to know that I am working in the right direction again... I did exercise three days last week, I'm looking forward to building on it more in the future.
A friend of mine found me the nicest corner desk for my office which she spent a few hours setting up for me... it's really starting to come together... now working from home still has to be approved through work (a very long story)... which may not happen but I am going to remain hopeful. Also staying organized is a full time job when you live with a teenager... I plan to keep encouraging her daily until she hopefully wants to keep it up herself... I know...  wishful thinking with a teen but I'm not giving up, it is important to me to keep the house in order.

Sometimes it feels like there are just one too many trials that come my way... I can't let it determine my mood no matter how challenged I feel I am... A few years ago I would have managed it in a poor way by trying to fill the loss with things that ultimately mean nothing and only damage and weigh me down more. I had to decide what is important and I have to keep choosing that daily if I am going to learn to fill the voids with good choices that will lift me up...
Disappointment is a part of life and dealing with it in an unhealthy way won't make it easier... Besides as hard as it is to not get what you want, life is much too short to be frustrated all the time. The older I become the more I realize that life throws us curve after curve and how I handle it is what will define me. Eventually everything will work out the way it is meant to... I just have to have patience and have a good attitude.

I learned a great deal by decluttering this summer, I realized that I bought and held on to items that actually didn't bring me any joy... they weighed me down... I really felt lighter getting rid of them, I no longer want to go out and purchase an item just to fill an empty void... I want to be conscious of my feelings... I can tell you that it isn't easy in the short term but I can see it being better in the long run...  Unfortunately sometimes we must lose in order to gain...

  1. Luanne, I fully understand about being weighted down with too much items. I'm trying to declutter also. I have to stop collecting things and get rid of things. I like the saying "Less is More" I've got rid of a lot this summer in my Garage Sales and I'm feeling less burdened.
Good luck with your wanting to work from home. I hope it happens soon for you. Also keep a positive attitude that the future will be better.

  2. Good that you had some time off. I completely agree with yo uthat one should not attach so many emotions wit hinanimate things. Most ofthe time we end up buying thingswe donot require, getting rid of them is a good option and a pth to be free from their bindage.

  6. So glad to hear that you feel rejuvenated after taking a break. We all need to do that once in a while. I'm happy for you too that you are back on track with healthy goals. How nice of your friend to find the desk you needed. I hope things work out for you so that you can work from home. Have a great weekend! :)

  7. I'm really glad you are on such a positive journey now, Launna! It's so amazing how far you have come with your health and your way of thinking. You are so much stronger and positive, which is the best way to look at life in order to keep yourself happy. I'm really so pleased for you. Everything will try to get you, it will be testing, but after everything you have been through it's going to be a walk in the park!

  11. It's so good to hear that you feel you deal with things better now. That you don't try to make up for loss with bad habits that will eventually make you feel even emptier.

  13. So glad your on the path to healthy. Thats the most important thing. I feel like I have gained weight too. I went out with some friends last weekend and they said I was very skinny, LOL. So I've been eating. Sleeping in is priceless. Unfortunately today is the last day, so all i have now are weekends to sleep in. I totally love that first quote. Yes, sometimes we need to hurt in order to grow. Have a lovely weekend beautiful.

  16. I think that happens to all of us but in different ways; we buy or hang on to stuff to fill a void in ourself. And yes, nothing is certain in our life as tomorrow will always present another challenge. We just need to chin up, brave on and grab the bull by its horn.

  18. Hi Launna! This post is so timely for me and you don't know how inspirational this is for me right now. I am going through something and I am really, really hurt because I don't like disappointing people. But I guess that in order for me to grow, I need to be hurt. I hope everything works out really soon for the both us so life can be so much better. I guess this is just really part of life. :)

  19. Life is too short to be frustrated all the time, we have to learn not to loose, I think, but to let life go its way, even though it's a different way than we had thought. That is what I've been learning this year, Launna. Do you think it can have sense?

Take care and enjoy the new week ahead

  29. I am so glad you got to get away for a little while and rejuvenate. So important for the soul! Getting back into execersinng is great. I have been doing pretty well with my exercise all summer- except the past 4 days I haven't done my usual walking (we had company and it was 100 degrees outside). I plan to get back to my routine tomorrow. I know if I take too much time off it will be hard for me to start up again. Reading this post was a good reminder of that. :)

Glad you are getting mentally lighter this summer. Such a good feeling to let go of things in our lives- even when we didn't realize they were holding us down.

    Have a lovely week!

  37. Beautiful thoughts as always, Launna. I agree on the importance of lettinggo certain things go, whether because they're toxic or simply unnecessary in our lives. Just like what happened with your house decluttering, it's all about making room for new things to come by only keeping what we really treasure from our past.
On a different note, I really wish your work situation turns out the best way and you get the approval you need. :)

  42. I couldn't find something more inspirational to read right now than this!!
I was promised a job as someone assistant before I went to summer break, and when I came back, my boss told me they can't take me, because it's a public institution and they have very strict hiring policy. Just yesterday I found out one of my schoolmates started to work there, so I'm still not sure if I didn't just get played.

I'm glad you had nice time at your vacations and that things are going well. I got to get rid of so many stuff too :)

Have a wonderful time, wish you all the best, and thank you for your support you always give to me <3

  44. Whew! Thank goodness my son is 30 and on his own with his very own family. you couldn't pay me to go through life with a teen again, so I feel your pain. He had a horrible habit of not wanting to clean his room properly. It wasn't until he went on a football retreat with his team that he realized everyone had to hold his own weight. If one person in the dorm didn't clean the room, they all had to run extra laps, or couldn't practice, or do 100 pushups. It worked and he was forever cured of all messiness! (lol) I still never received any phone messages until 2-3 days later, though. Keeping fingers crossed for you that the transition of working from home happens soon. Hugs...RO

  46. Hi Launna!!! Thanks for you kind words on my blog and for welcoming :) I'm sorry I've been gone for so long but I'm pursuing my bachelors degree while working a full time job and time is scarce. But anyways, I finally have a little break before I start fall classes and I'm using it to spend time with my husband and update my website and blog :)

I absolutely love how you share the things you have learned in life and I could not agree more. Life is like a series of challenges, isn't it? the way we react to them definitely define us and as you said things always work out the way they are supposed to.

I'm glad you are getting back in track with your health, I'm trying to keep up with my workout schedule as well! which can get hard at times.

Good luck keeping the house tidy while living with a teen! I'm sure my mom felt the same way for a quite a while :)

  47. Launna looks like we are both treading the same path at this moment. Organising an office desk (which I hope you could share with us soon), facing disapointments and decluttering Yes! In Feng Shui (That's what I've begun to read)they say that a lot of energy is amassed in how the space is used in your home and for that very reason, I too am decluttering all my old furnitures, letting go of all the good/bad memories associated with them and paving way to create some new memories by redoing my entire home. That's what's been keeping me so occupied the last couple of weeks and I think will still take some more time before I can finally be proud of our little space that I can call home. I'm glad you are always on a positive track in life. Life isn't all rosy after all but after reading so many of your posts, I think who better than you to find a positive outcome to tackle it! Love you!

I have a few days off work right now and am immensely enjoying the free time...just like you said: sleeping in, staying up, the little luxuries of life. Decluttering is also on my to-do-list though...I really need to start with my closet.

  62. I've just bought a book on decluttering called The Life Changing Magic of Tidying by Marie Kondo and I can't wait to start reading. We're about to move homes and my husband had made an offer on a home on an impulse ( because we almost couldn't find anywhere and we're desperate) and had paid a deposit without me having seen the place. I went to view the home that we were going to be moving to only to discover that there is absolutely no storage. NO STORAGE! We currently have a lot of clutter courtesy DH and his tendency to hoard so, so as not to lose my mind, I've just bought this book to help me figure out my next move before an anxiety attack sets in.
I wish I were you now without the clutter... :(
