Excuses Are Just Doubts

I started this post three nights ago, I wrote six paragraphs and then deleted three. This is a difficult post for me, I have been in a rut of excuses. I realized that a few nights ago when I started taking stock of where I was spending all my time... I had slowly allowed TV to take up all my spare time, it's comfortable and you don't have to think ... So, this blog entry came about...

I follow a variety of blogs, one type being diet and exercise blogs, these last few weeks many of the people have been struggling, being very open about their feelings and very honest in their food choices and sharing them with us.
It would be easy to question their choices in food... but why? It isn't the food, it's the emotional reasons. We all have them, crutches if you like, possibly excuses but truthfully... it's not simple to say just eat right and exercise.

I know for me I have to look inward as to why? I have to fix that first before I'll be successful. So, I had quite the week with questioning myself as to why I am not dealing with some things head on. Instead I am burying it with all kinds of excuses.

I had to ask myself some hard questions, some of the answers I didn't like... I am not being consistent with my goals, I put in the effort and then I slide. I gave myself the right to have excuses with taking this course or whatever else I wanted to include for not putting in the work.
I am not going to sit her and say that I will walk 15 or 20 miles per week but I am going to say that I will walk three or four days per week and I will utilize the gym at work for some strength training twice per week. Most of all, I am eliminating TV from my activities, I can see how it gave me the excuse to be lazy. I went without it for five months when I changed my life and I didn't even miss it.

Also, I need to be accountable to myself, so at least once per month I will give an update on how things are going here. The thing is that I know I can be successful at whatever I put my mind to, I have seen it throughout my life. It is when I let any doubt creep in that I fail, what I have learned over the years is to not let the failure take control for too long if... at all. For me, excuses are just doubts... doubts I am going to overcome...

  3. my current favourite way to procrastinate is to read the news. and I keep telling myself that it's a good thing to do. to keep up with current affairs. to read multiple opinions on everything. it's important, isn't it. but I know that it's just an excuse. i should be going for what I really want to do but I'm not. it's that simple. I'm struggling with this for years. decades, possibly. and to find out why or to remain accountable doesn't seem to work or help. I have a vague idea of what's holding me back and why but don't know how to move past it. the old adage to JUST DO IT doesn't work either. I go through extremely productive periods, and then I slide again. and you know what, that's ok too. I think we all struggle. and as long as we keep trying and keep going in the right direction, a few stops and detours along the way are ok. that's just how it is for some [most?] of us. xo

  7. Wow Launna..you're actually right. EXCUSES ARE JUST DOUBTS. I am a victim myself. I want to honestly quit my job, and switch careers (finance isnt my cup of tea!), but I am too scared..I keep giving myself lame excuses like.."oh, it will get better" etc. Deep down i know it wont :( I wish i could be as strong as you when it comes to these kinda things :/ This post was definitely a wake up call for me.

  22. Launna, I definitely understand. People go on about "sticking to good diets and exercising for a healthy lifestyle." It's not as easy as some make it out to be. It's so easy to draw away from our goals. Our old habits often get the better of us. But I'm glad that you recognize your habits and want to keep going forward ♡ I know you can do it! :)

  24. 100% true. All of this. Doubts and setting goals so high because we feel it is expected of us when if we set tangible high goals we want for ourselves it is much easier and hard at the same time to reach. Nothing is every impossible if you truly want it, little measures count towards what we want. Doubts are excuses but we dont need excuses to make things happen.

  29. it's easy to answer it all with "duh, just eat better and exercise" than actually do it. there are plenty of reasons why one doesn't just 'eat better and exercise', maybe they're feeling bloated? maybe they're feeling like crap because of something or somebody in their life? maybe they're suffering from a minor depression? That's why I can't stand those 'lifestyle coaches' that says bs like 'exercise everyday no excuses!', we're not robots...

  30. You are continually incredible and inspiring !! You work at your own speed and don't be too hard on yourself. We are humans and our bodies need to rest as well.

Also, believe it or not, I seldom watch tv, maybe whilst I am in bed before I sleep, but other than that, hardly ever. lol

  34. Its really strange when its about excuses. Its always good to be honests when its about your feelings. Never find excuses for not running 20 miles per week. Have a goal and manage how far you can go. Tell yourself you will run twice a week. Surprise yourself how far. Write it down and try to become better the next week or the next month.

Watch TV from time to time. May you will have a certain slot for watching TV.

I know that you are going your way!! You managed that all now without any excuses. Never doubt about anything you did or you gonna do in the future!!! Im always so thrilled to read your posts and to know what is going on in your life!

My next trip: It will be India, Rio, Egypt or Jordan!!! I will go in November for two weeks and cant wait to see what adventures I will go through.

I send you 1000 hugs and hope that you will have a successful week!!!

  35. Launna, I admire your determination and your ability to think things through to get to the root of the matter. Don't be too hard on yourself, though. Changing habits is difficult to do. You've done it before, so you know you can do it again. If you slip up, don't get upset, just get back on track as soon as you can. Sending you positive thoughts. :)

  37. You are inspiring! Oh, I know..with the new seasons and new shows..I find myself watching more TV than usual. I do try to stay away. Its funny, how you have TV to talk to some friends. And they want you to be watching the same thing they are..thus this leads to lunch and so and so..so when can you do what you really need to do? Its good to have your "wake up" post to read...to help us get back on track too.

  38. Dear Launna, thanks for deciding to switch off tv. It's so fascinating and easy, but also makes us lazy. Us adults and kids too. I'm always fighting, every day with my children that would like to live all day long with tv.
A big a and a little tired hug from Italy, last night I slept 2 hours, Raffaele cried a lot.

  41. Hi Launna, TV is evil!!! haha no, not really but seriously. A long time ago I kept complaining I didn't have time for anything bla bla bla and then I read I believe in a blog! that if you stop watching tv you are going to gain 3+ in your daily schedule. So I tried it and it is so true! I mean I like to have the tv on for noise or music but I don't really watch it (unless of course is a really good show and it is played once a week like the Walking Dead). I've gained so much more time in my life to do things like working out, blogging and start my little boutique. You try it too darling :) I want to follow you on bloglovin but your button is not working. Would you mind sending me the link?

Eating right and exercise are good but so is relaxation. 54. Totally relatable to me. I'm back on track now after a long time of just eating whatever I wanted and not getting enough time in at the gym. I was looking puffy and feeling very lethargic. I knew I had to do something about it. I feel better already--back to counting calories and going to the gym 4X per week. But I did allow myself to indulge on my birthday---that's a no-calorie zone day, Haha! Keep at it, Launna--you're doing a great job and have come so far!

  58. Launna, I so agree with all you wrote my sister. It is in our struggles we find God strength, when ours is totally gone and we have no where else to go...there He is, just waiting for us. It makes me think of an old southern gospel song" God of The Mountain. It's so easy to see Him on the mountain but hard in the valley's. Yet it is the valley's where the grass is sweeter, water flows. Good post.
