Riding The Wave Of Life

I remember a time I never doubted myself and the path I was on... I knew each time that when challenges came along that I all I had to do was ride out the wave and the answer would be there eventually.  I had a day in March 2008 which was one horrible incident after the other, throughout the whole day I smiled and took the challenges for what they were... to show me where I really should be going, within six months my life changed drastically.  Lately I have been wondering if I will ever recognize the path where I should be on or the answers it will give?

I sometimes get a glimpse of the path and then it seems to disappear before I get there and I am left standing to wonder if I actually saw it or if it was all an illusion?  When you are shaken to the core in everything that you believe... becoming steady again even when it is calm is not easy.  It's like I doubt that the steady time will last before the next challenge is there for me to handle, lately I have been dealing with one thing... then another one would be delivered on my plate before I got through the first one, I started juggling them... eventually they fall, so it is much better to have the time in between to deal with them... I guess it is true that life is about learning to dance in the rain...
I know that sometimes there are trials that come into our lives that are meant to shake us up to where we become unsure but I also know that if we believe it is something that will pass, eventually along the path we will recognize the reason why we had to deal with that challenge.  For me, I just don't know the reason and because I don't know, it means I haven't been able to get back to where I should be. I feel like I have been floating in the wind... kind of like a butterfly that never stays put too long... instead I flit from here to there and I never seem to get to where I should be going.

I had a thought tonight that made me very reflective of how I see people, more like how I want to see them than to actually see them as they truly are (I see that I have done this a few times in my life)... I realized that the unforgiving and judgmental attitudes were always there from the beginning, I failed to see past what I wanted to see... which makes me melancholy... I know that even though I have forgiven things, my forgiveness might not come ... I only have past behavior to think this, unless there is a great change somewhere, I will have to deal with that insight I gained and possibly one day, count myself lucky ...  Until then I will just ride the wave.

  1. Sometimes we won't know the reason that we are on a certain path until the reason reveals itself to us...and that's something that will only happen when it's mean to. We cannot speed that process up, no matter how badly we want to. I enjoy following your journey on here and I have no doubt whatsoever that you are on the right path :)

  2. Hello Launna:

"...life is about learning to dance in the rain". How that resonates for it does, as we are certain you know, contain so much in the way of truth. For some the path, whether wet with rain or not, appears to be relatively straight and the way ahead clearly visible; for others it twists and turns and the corners cannot be seen around. But however it is for you, Launna, and we know that it has not been, nor is it, easy, we are certain that with your determination you will reach the broad, open plain and be at one with yourself.

  3. I believe everything happens to us for reasons even though at the time it's hard to see it in that light. I really appreciate everything you share with us on your blog and it's a pleasure to be on this journey with you.

I too sometimes get a glimpse of the path and then it seems to disappear before I get there and I am left standing to wonder if I actually saw it or if it was all an illusion?

  5. You are right, it's best to just ride the wave and work with what life throws at you then to fight against it. Because we can't change what happens to us, we can only decide how to deal with them.

  6. The world is so huge & one feels like a sand corn not worth to be alive... every now and then.
I sometimes, too, wish people were just the way I see them at first... something that makes it all the more disappointing when they come out to be nothing I fancied them to be.

  7. I'm reminded of a story my grandparents tell. They have a cabin near Strawberry reservoir in Utah, and one night while on their way up, the car died. They weren't that far, but it was so dark, the road is uneven and my grandma has always dealt with vertigo. They weren't sure they'd be able to get there safely, but after prayer, they decided to proceed. Grandma said she saw each step light up ahead of her, one at a time, guiding her safely to the cabin. I'm reminded of the lyrics for Lead Kindly Light--"Keep thou my feet; I do not ask to see the distant scene, one step enough for me." There are times that feel that way, and as long as we're willing to put one foot in front of the other, we'll be guided. =)

  9. Oh, Launna. This post may have resonated with me far more than all of the others. When things went south in my own relationship, it felt like the entire world crumbled beneath me. Sometimes I still find myself looking around, wondering how I got here. I felt exactly that way when I wrote this: Mundane, but there is certainly more to it, isn't there.

  10. Launna, I sincerely love each and every post you post. You bring such life and substance to the blogging community. And for that I am truly appreciative. I have a primarily beauty blog, but intertwine lifestyle posts at least once a month because i like to write about life/feelings,etc It makes me feel like I have some people that are actually listening, and DO care. Plus I get some of the greatest advice on here that I otherwise would not ever have recieved! :)

I also believe every thing happens for a reason, and God will not bring you TO it unless he knew you could get THROUGH it. Just have to keep believing these are just hurdles you have to jump over to get to your victory!

Looking forward to future posts of yours!

  23. I'm here to say hello!! I think your'e right when we get older, we are better able to reflect on some things we might not have noticed or been able to see before. It's okay though... all part of a learning process that leads us to new doors to open. :)

  28. Hi Launna,

Thanks for checking up on me... you are such a sweetheart! i visited some family and took a break from blogging and life =).. im sorry to hear about march 2008. maybe this quote will help put things in perspective.
"“I believe that everything happens for a reason. People change so that you can learn to let go, things go wrong so that you appreciate them when they're right, you believe lies so you eventually learn to trust no one but yourself, and sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together.” MM

  34. Hi Launna. I think we all lose our way sometimes or start off in a certain direction and then suddenly wonder why and how we got there. I think we just have to do the best we can with what we know. Hugs to you. Wishing you a good day.

  36. Do you embroider? Doesn't have to be fancy or perfect, but just colorful in colors that appeal to you. I'd suggest that you write the words, "And this too shall pass" on a piece of cloth, and maybe add a picture of a rising sun, or some other upbeat image that floats your boat, and then embroider it, frame it, and hang it on your wall. Somewhere where you'll be sure to see it every day. It really does help.

We don't always have to know exactly where our path is going to take us, or even if we're taking the best path to get there. What we have to do is believe in ourselves, and then make a leap of faith. Trust that there will be Hands to catch you.

  47. I have had the same issues when dealing with people---I see them as I WANT them to be, not how they really are. It's kind of like going through life with rose colored glasses on. Once the glasses are lifted from your eyes, you see the faults inside of the people whom you once thought were perfect. Glad you have your eyes open now. Hugs!
