Soaring Higher Than My Dreams

I spent this week reflecting on the changes I have made and the ones I want to work on in the very near future... When I look at how far I have come, I am both surprised and grateful... Not that I didn't think I could make all the changes I have made because even though I fell many times I never stopped getting back up and believing in myself... I often wondered if I would just get out of my own way and allow myself to soar like I knew I could.

For some reason I put my own road blocks up, I often become fearful of how much I can soar, how far I am really capable of actually going... I saw a little of that fear this week when I decided on a whim to go for a two mile walk and I realized I didn't have my headphones with me. I was tempted to go back and grab them but I only had a set amount of time so I decided to go without them. It was then that I understood how much I used the music so that I could zone out and not think... that was eye opening... for the 30 minutes I walked/jogged I had nothing to cover up my thoughts... I actually had to be present with myself...
I thought a lot about why I seemed to need sounds, like music or talking... why I didn't want the quiet.... The quiet allowed me to really think deeply about certain changes I needed and wanted to make but didn't seem willing to do as I was always finding excuses. One of them was how I want to meditate, I kept thinking about how I never have the time for this... I know I certainly do not want to get up any earlier than I already do but while I walked I remembered a time a couple of years ago where I kept talking about how I wanted to exercise and I wondered where I would find the time.

Not even two years later I have seen that I just needed to shift my priorities and make the time for what is really important. I spend about 5-7 hours per week exercising and I don't feel like I am squeezing it in to my life, it is part of my life that I couldn't imagine not doing anymore. I can't begin to tell you how good it feels to push myself beyond what I thought I was capable of... and seeing that all the changes I often wondered were possible become a reality.

So now, I need to make meditating a part of my life by just doing it... I had a quiet weekend where I was able to keep the noise level down which is not always possible with a tween in the household but if I want to make changes, true changes I need to find the way to make them happen. I am the only one who can make them happen, no one can do the work for me, no one can make those decisions for me... I am accountable to me...
Although I may stumble, I will not stay down or give up on myself... I have come too far to ever go back to where I was... I read a really wonderful blog this week from a woman I know personally... she has changed her life and lost a great deal of weight by making herself a priority... she talked about how she loved her 40+ year old body that was able to move even though she had spent many years being sedentary ... it made me think about how much I love my 51 year old body that I neglected for far too many years, yet it proves to me daily that it can change if I am willing to make the changes needed...

Now I need to make the time for meditating the way I did for exercising... I know if I take the time to clear my mind through meditation, I can soar even higher than I ever dreamed...

I'm feelling totally understand you especially the part about work out time: it's the same for me!
I love my morning running beacause I'm alone with myself and my toughts in the silence of the morning, and I think that, even if I don't like to wake up at 6.00 am, it's the best way to start every day!
About the fear of our inner power, I'd never tought about it before, but I guess very often it's true!
Well, keep on this positive mind, dear! :D

Greetings from my side. I just got done with exams and resumed blogging. This was touching and simple and it touched a chord. I do the same. I try deafening the silence only afraid and avoiding what it might tell me.

THis gives me hope and courage to do so. I will try making meditating a part of my life too. Just like you :)

  25. I have a co-worker who gets up at 4:30 in the morning to meditate. I know that would not be my part of day to meditate. But its great to have those around me who make the time. Speaking of sounds, I like listening to my app at night with "urban rain" Otherwise, no telling what I might be thinking about.

All the best on finding time to meditate. Wonderful post!

  26. Launna I love how descriptive your blogposts are! I sometimes fear about the future too! Let's correct that - I'm always scared but the determination to see what lies ahead makes me move ahead on life! Like your headphone story, everything in life is meant for a purpose, in your case you realised how it means to think without the distraction of music! Well written dear Launna!

  28. Very thoughtful post Launna ... and it is true, quiet time is important. We can spend too much time rushing or perhaps being aware that we need to rush more BUT do we? Not all the time. It is important to remember to have some quiet time for reflection... our minds and bodies are most thankful.

Hope you had a good weekend

  29. I know! How hard is to find a moment away from all the noise and distractions in this time and age, right? I'm VERY used to go everywhere with my headphones on, and the times I forgot them at home it felt so strange to go around and actually hear my own thoughts. I have to confess I don't like the quiet either because of your exact same reason, so you'll always see me with music on or the tv on, or simple playing silly games on my phone until I fall asleep. But I do understand the importance of having a moment for meditating, a time for you and yourself only, it's very healthy and a great experience for who haven't done it in a while so I really hope you can find the time to do it! :)

  33. isn't is amazing how much we are afraid of failure and of success at the same time. I create my fair share of roadblocks too. and like you, I wonder what I could do if I allowed myself to soar. as to meditation. I try to do 15 minutes a day. and it's a struggle. but yes, all it comes down to in the end is to just do it. good luck. and keep us posted how it's going. I'm curious to see how others handle it. I hate that image of someone serenely sitting somewhere, cross-legged, their face blissfully in the sun. as if it was that easy!!!

    have a wonderful week xoxo

  38. Meditation is so important - and the great thing is there are so many different forms of it so you can choose which works best for you. I've tried LOADS and find the best for me is guided meditation... I just bought a CD where a woman talks and helps you to align your chakras.... and light incense.
Also just sitting quietly and letting your thoughts in and letting them drift away without dwelling on them - don't fight them away, but just let them go. It's hard at first but is like riding a bike once you get it :) xxx

  46. I totally agree on meditating, it goes a long way to tell us where we are and where we are suppossed to be. As balancing of account is to an accountant and a proprietor so is meditation - purposeful reflection!

  47. Very inspiring, Launna! I've always loved that quote, "our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure." That quote speaks to me when it comes to chasing a goal or dream because potential is endless...and that can be terrifying. Sometimes I even put up a block in my path simply out of that terrifying potential. But then, I usually hear another favorite quote of mine: Voice A- "But what if I fail?" Voice B- "Oh, my dear, but what if you fly?" Definitely a quote of encouragement for any goal seeker. I'm very proud of you with how you've kept up your exercise routine, and surely you will integrate meditation and that will become a norm for you, too!

My brother mediates in regular bases, I haven't really tried much but yesterday I took a yoga/pilates/meditation class and it was truly amazing! I'm thinking about trying it more often :)

  67. Launna, I don't know how to meditate and I tried before and I felt bored. I guess I need to be at peace with myself and everything else before I find true meaning and joy in meditation and the benefits of it. I've never run to music before as I do not like the thought of sweaty earphones. I also do not have any swanky music player that clips onto the body discreetly nor do I have music in my phone. So yeah, I really think a lot when I walk or run on my own. I think it is great to keep the mind going in this way. I spent some time going through your past posts as I always try to make sure I keep up with my blog friends as much as possible while I was away on blogosphere.

    RYC:
Hey Launna, You are always welcome you live vicariously through my blog. I always love reading travel posts from other blogs as well because I love living vicariously through the lens of others. Hahaha... we would take it as all those walking when we travel really burnt the calories and fats away.

    RYC:
Hello Launna, I'm glad to hear that you are getting better at socializing and enjoying the get togethers. I always feel that friends are good investment of time coz when you have the right ones and you yourself is a right one, the returns are invaluable and treasured.

About the protruding veins. I often edit them away when I post them on Instagram or choose the ones that least depict the veins. You would notice that sometimes I don't do anything to them but just Instagram filters which sort of mask them away yet still visible. I don't know what cause my headache coz I could get them even when I'm at home and not working on anything so I'm not sure of they are stress headaches. One of my gal pal did a CT scan coz of her frequent headaches and she turned out well but she said at least it puts her mind at ease. Thanx for your concern, dear. I red up a lot and my headache seems to belong to one of those non-threatening but annoying ones that affect work and life.

We are having long weekend as Monday is Vesak Day here in Singapore. I'm trying very hard to catch up on social media and my shop. Lots of overseas order recently. Busy but happy problem! =D
