If Not Now? Then When?

I had a really nice Christmas, Valentina was happy with her gifts. I had a few people over and I enjoyed all the food and company... it was really nice to share it with others... I think that's the best part of the holidays, visiting with each other and spending more time getting to know one another.

Saying all this I have been out of control with food, using any and every excuse from it's Christmas, it's a sad time for memories to I'm injured so why not? (basically feeling sorry for myself)... I kept telling myself I'll get back on track after this or after that. I lost focus and I didn't allow myself to see how far I have fallen. Not until a couple of days ago when I felt so uncomfortable that I could no longer ignore it.
This brings me to this blog post title: If Not Now? Then When? ... so I am not waiting until New Years or another predefined date, I am never successful with a date, I just have to do it and most of all I need to make a commitment to myself. So although I am not able to exercise the way I like to or need to, I am going to be accountable for my food. No matter what I eat, I will be tracking it in My Fitness Pal and I will be publishing it daily there.

I would love it if anyone of you wanted to join up there (my user name there is launnk) and work on your goals, even if you just want to maintain, it's a great way to stay healthy. I am and have always been about getting to and maintaining a healthy weight. It is not, nor will it ever be about losing a lot of weight.
I'm a curvy girl and I love my curves... I have no plans to ever lose them all. We are all built with different shapes and sizes, I say celebrate it and love ourselves no matter what size or shape we are...however; feeling comfortable and healthy in our skin is important.

I don't want it to be an obsession, nor do I want to be so rigid that I feel like I am denying myself any food groups. This is going to be about portions and feeding my body the healthy food it needs and desires. Ever since I hurt my leg, I used it as an excuse..  then I kept thinking how I needed to get on track. Yesterday I thought, If Not Now? Then When? ... Now is the time....

  3. Hello Launna, I too enjoy my food. As I age, I easily put on weight. I do continue to enjoy my food but I need to discipline myself not to eat too much. A little of everything. I agree that we need to be accountable. Blessed Sunday!

  4. There is no time like the present. I've over indulged the last few weeks too. I have a Fitbit bracelet that tells me when I'm slacking and it's been chiding me.

  12. It is a terrible habit, which I am guilty of, too.
Always postponing with the excuse of waiting 'til, for example, the start of a week, or worse a month etc...

I am glad you were able to escape this cycle!! :)

  16. I'm totally with you Launna! "Do it now" is my motto, procrastinate is a bad habit and an excuse for the worst form of self indulgence, for me....
So I'm very happy to hear your resolution and willing! Go Launna! :D

  17. I'm glad to hear you had a good Christmas. So did we. I got lots of playtime and cuddling in with four of our grandchildren. :)

Good for you on recommitting to being aware of your food intake. It takes a lot of self-control, but you've already shown that you've got plenty of that to spare.

Happy New Year! (just a teeeeeny bit early...)

  22. You go girl! I am pretty good about what I eat except for sugar! And like you it has gotten out of control this month. With Grampy home until after the first I am also realistic and plan to start taking care of me after the first. No more daily sugar -- be that cookies, candy, or something! I am weak and I admit it!

  23. Really like the quote, we should find a way out and no excuse, very encouraging, best wishes.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I like that quote- if not now then when. It is very true. But don't be hard on yourself because it really can be tough. I know you can do it and tracking things helps for me heaps. That is how I get motivated with swimming and running. I don't use my fitness pal but track all my activities and goals in runkeeper.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I admire your commitment so much. It's completely human that you lost track these days, we all did ;) But your commitment of going back to your healthy habits now and not after a certain date is inspiring.
I'm so happy to hear that you spent a lovely Chhristmas day with your daughter and friends. Creating new memories with my family and clostest friends is what I love about the holidays. I'm really, really glad that this year you felt way, too!

  27. I can relate to this post! I found myself eating chocolate last night at 11pm and thinking, well it is Christmas chocolate! I never eat chocolate right before I go to bed. I admit I have less willpower when food is everywhere. So many people give cookies, chocolates and other foods as gifts during the holidays and I use that as an excuse to eat them. I think having some is okay, but I need to put limits on what I am eating and not just eat because it is the season. Good luck tracking your food- I always have found that helps me to be accountable to myself. :)

  29. I think moderation is the key. Enjoying good food is not a problem, especially during the holiday. Just don't overindulge regularly, or you'll probably end up feeling bad about it.

    Best wishes for 2016!

  30. I absolutely know what you mean...but, after all, christmas is one of those times when it's ok to indulge a bit! It's just important to get back on track exercisewise afterwards ;) Tracking your food definitely sounds like a great idea to stay healthy.

  38. Yes, I gree! There is no better time then the present time. I struggle with sugar so much, I love sweets. I do allow myself one or two sweet things a day because there is no need to deprive one self. Of course, all in moderation! Wishing you a very Happy New Year Launna, hope it's filled with many great accomplishments, good health, and love.

  62. I love this post, Launna. It's motivating and inspiring. You are so right! If not now - then when? We should ask ourselves that every day when we have an idea of what we would like to do. More often we should simply start the process, usually it's not that difficult or big of a deal but we keep pushing it and pushing it excusing it with something that isn't even true.
I tend to comfort myself with food, too, especially WAY too much chocolate and every now and then I just need to start to cut it down, too. The first few days are always a bit frustrating but as soon as my body feels better it's so rewarding :)
It's awesome that you have the help of an app that keeps you on track. You can do this and your body feeling comfortable again plus being proud of yourself (which you really should be!) will be the best rewards.

I wish you a healthy, very happy, amazing and adventurous 2016, dear Launna. Let's do things now and make it the best year :)
Lots of love and hugs to you,
    Beate
